Book Review: “Purple Cow” by Seth Godin
Why are you different? What makes you better? If you can’t answer this, your business probably has issues. Seth Godin writes that at the end of the day, having a unique product or service that your customer understands and tells others about for you is the best advertising and marketing strategy out there. We’re overwhelmed with creative advertising every day – working that advertising channel just adds to the noise.
What We Love About this Book
You have to love Seth Godin’s books in general – always short, concise, and to the point. His books are their own Purple Cow in the business book world. Concepts are well laid out, filled with great examples, lots of pictures, and the books wraps up quickly. Godin also provides a checklist to help you on your quest to be different.
Any criticisms?
What do you do about a business in a mature, competitive market with no real differentiation? Some brief examples are given about cheap airlines and Hallmark in the book, but not great answers to solve that dilemma. I guess that’s for a future book.
